Registration and Tuition Questions

What if I decide not to attend or need to pull my scholar out of school before the end of the year?

If you have registered for the next school year and find that you are unable to attend, the May tuition amount (due in advance: May 1st) is refundable with written notice to the preschool director postmarked by August 1.

To restate: for the upcoming school year, written notice must be postmarked by August 1 or the entire May tuition payment is forfeited. Once your scholar’s school year begins and you find you must withdraw for any reason, you must give 60 days written notice or your May tuition is forfeited and you owe tuition through your scholar’s last day of attendance.

If you withdraw after March 22, you forfeit May’s tuition and owe tuition through your scholar’s last day of attendance.

Written notification should be sent to the Tap In Prep Academy address listed in the question/answer below.

Please notify us as soon as possible if there are any special situations that will affect your payment’s timeliness.

Dropping Off & Picking Up Your Scholar

Should I stay to get my scholar settled when dropping them off?

For some scholars, this is the first time they have experienced separation from their parents. We understand that this can be a very difficult time for both parents and scholars. It is important to let your scholar know that although you are leaving, you will be back to pick them up at the end of the d v feels comfortable with the new environment.

What if I am late for picking my scholar up?

If you or the authorized pick up person is late to pick up your scholar, a late fee of $3 for every 15 minutes will be applied.

If a scholar is consistently picked up late, we will schedule a parent/teacher conference and reserve the right to raise the fee. Please keep in mind that staff members are never allowed to transport scholars home.

If you do believe that you will be late, please contact us at (217) 531-6821 as soon as possible.

What if I can’t pick up my scholar? Can someone else do it?

Only those listed on your sign-in/sign-out form can pick up your scholar.

You may also contact the Main Office at (217) 403-3710 to update the list of those authorized to pick up your scholar. In the instance that the custodial parent is unwilling to give blanket permission to the non-custodial parent, permission must be granted for each specific occasion. A custodial parent denying blanket release must provide legal documentation regarding custody.

Sick Days & Snow Days

How does Tap In Prep Academy notify parents of snow days?

TIPA will base the decision to delay/cancel school on the Champaign Unit 4 School District’s decision to delay/cancel. If the Unit 4 School District observes a school closing due to inclement weather, TIPA will also observe the school closing. In some instances, the Champaign Unit 4 School District Make-up days will not be scheduled for days missed due to inclement weather. No refunds or credits are given for closings, holidays or illnesses.

What should I do if my scholar is sick?

If your scholar displays symptoms of illness including but not limited to:

  • fever of 100°F
  • sore throat
  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • lethargy
  • skin rash
  • eye infection, or
  • runny nose

your scholar must remain at home.

If a scholar becomes ill during the school day, a parent or guardian will be contacted. Parents and guardians are then responsible for picking up their child.

If you will be keeping your scholar home due to illness, please contact us at (TIPA NUMBER). If you call prior to school hours, please leave a voicemail with your name, your scholar’s name, and the reason for keeping them at home. This will assist us in notifying other parents about the potential outbreak. Any notices regarding outbreaks will keep the identity of the scholar confidential.

A scholar will not be permitted to attend TIPA when he or she has vomited or experienced diarrhea within the past 24 hours.

Our staff is not allowed to administer any medication to scholars, so please plan to bring any medication with you and personally administer it to your scholar as needed. If you will be doing so, please let our staff know so we can plan accordingly.

Classroom Participation, Birthdays and Snacks

Can I bring in a treat for my scholar’s birthday?

You are more than welcome to send treats with your scholar for a birthday or holiday celebration! We ask that if you do, please make prior arrangements with the teachers. Please keep in mind that there will be scholars with food allergies and teachers must pre-approve.

How can I keep up with what’s going on with my scholar in class?

Periodically, teachers will send home Teacher Comments’/Newsletters discussing your scholar’s adjustment to the classroom routine. Parent-teacher conferences are available upon request. You will also receive a calendar of events each month for you to review.

What will happen if my scholar needs to be redirected?

If a scholar needs to be redirected, our staff will provide other, positive alternatives. Depending on the severity, the teacher may have a discussion with the scholar independently to determine how to best redirect the scholar. We may also recommend that the scholar participates in an individual activity (i.e. reading, puzzles). If a scholar displays unusual behavior such as prolonged crying, tantrums, kicking, or biting, we will set up a meeting with the parents to discuss possible solutions.

Please also refer to the Champaign Unit 4 School District Student Code of Conduct if you have further questions or feel free to contact any of our staff.

What should I do if my scholar loses an item?

Lost and Found items are kept in a basket at the front of the program office and are donated at the end of the school year if not claimed. We recommend that any personal belongings you send with your scholar be labeled. Scholars will each have a cubby, where their backpack will be stored, but please ensure you are not sending anything valuable to school with your scholar. TIPA does not bear any responsibility for any lost belongings.

Can my scholar bring a snack from home?

Yes! Parents are asked to send a small snack and juice or water with their scholar daily. Snacks must be labeled with your scholar’s name and date. Due to the prevalence and severity of food allergies, as a precaution, we ask that parents do not send in snacks or treats containing peanut butter or any type of nut or nut products.  We recommend that snacks be nutritious and non-perishable. Suggestions for healthy snacks and lunches from USDA guidelines include: fruits, small sandwiches, vegetables, muffins, and cereal, along with 100% fruit juice or water.

Can I sit in with my scholar in class?

TIPA has an ‘open door’ policy, so parents are always welcome to visit or observe the class. To avoid disruption to the other students, please limit visits to 15-20 minutes. If you do plan to stop by, it is often helpful to let the teachers know when you are coming and who you will be bringing (baby brother or sister, grandparents, etc.).

What should my scholar wear?

Scholars should wear their TIPA uniform daily.

  • Monday through Thursday, scholars will have to wear a white or navy blue polo.
  • On Fridays, scholars will wear their provided TIPA polo shirt, which is light blue.
  • Scholars will always wear khaki bottoms.

We recommend purchasing uniforms from Walmart, Old Navy, or Gap.

Please send your scholar in weather appropriate attire, as we will typically be spending time outside as long as the weather is not severe.

If your scholar does not have weather appropriate attire, he/she will have to stay inside. Please also try to keep a spare set of clothes in your scholar’s backpack in the event he/she has an accident.
